Bert was the first born child of Mormon pioneers who was just an infant when his parents followed the treacherous Hole-in-the-Rock trail to settle in southeastern Utah.
He married  ​Sarah Louise Trousdale on 31 October 1897 ​in Socorro County, New Mexico. Four of their six children reached adulthood.

• 1903 Sidney Lakin (died as infant)
• 1905 Hazel Kirilla (my grandmother)
• 1907 Robert Alphus Douglass (died as infant)

They divorced in about 1915. Bert married again, to ​Angeline Speer in about 1917, location not yet known. Their only child was born in 1920: William Marion Goddard.
